Interview with Ry-Spirit :iconry-spirit:

Harry Potter in Diagon Alley by Ry-Spirit Layton and the Curious Village by Ry-Spirit Mega Man by Ry-Spirit Wisdom Courage and Power by Ry-Spirit

1. Why did you become a member of deviantART?

I became a member of Deviantart after my girlfriend told me that I should put my artworks up 'somewhere'. Before that I usually just draw in my notebooks and sometimes even homeworks. So I gave it a go, and realised that a lot of people appreciate my artworks, so through people's encouragement I decided to continue being here on Deviantart.

2. Of the 4 years you've been here, what is your biggest (and proudest) accomplishment here on deviantART? Like a time when you felt like you were right on top of the world

My proudest moment might've been my first ever Daily Deviation. But being me I was so unaware of what's on Deviantart except for uploading artworks that I didn't even know what a Daily Deviation was...

3. What does "Fan Art" mean to YOU?

Fan Art is a way of expressing your love for a certain thing. I think it is like your 'vision' and your 'interpretation' of your love for something as well, I also think that it is like a way of giving something back as a thank you for what has been given to you. I like it when an artist take an existing fandom and put their own style into it.

4. As an artist, tell me one of the biggest challenges you had to face and how you dealt/faced with it.

I think one of the most difficult challenges as an artist is to say when an artwork is complete and finished. Well for me anyway, because the thing about art is you are never quite sure as to when to put a full stop on the artwork. I could use 2 hours to finish an artwork and then spend another 5 hours trying to fix it up and make it look better, eventhough it might've looked fine in the first place. Very often I would upload an artwork on Deviantart and then come back to it hours later or days later to fix up or add a few things. I still have like 6 artworks waiting to be put on Deviantart because I don't think it is complete, other people may look at it and say its done but not me...

5. A popular question, what program(s) do you use and why?

I use Photoshop CS5 at the moment, I have been using Photoshop since many years ago simply because I was told it was good and I should try it out. I have been told that Sai and Coral Painter and Gimp is pretty good as well but for me Photoshop seems to be fine, so I just never bothered with other softwares, I never saw the need to. Also, I don't really see the difference between CS5 or Photoshop 7...

6. If you could give advice to a complete newbie artist or for those who are struggling, what would that be?

DRAW A LOT! Trust me the more you draw the better you get, I had problems with drawing hands but after drawing it 50 times I can draw it without references. Another way to improve is to literally copy something, may it be a Naruto comic or Disney film paused on TV. Copy it many times and you should be able to understand how it works. Don't wanna sound cliche but practice makes perfect. If you are at an age where you can go to life drawing sessions, go to it too! It really helps with your drawing of postures and body structures.

7. Do you have any upcoming projects planned? If you don't mind sharing it with us, consider it a PIMP spot here!

I have many projects planned.. I wanna make a TV show, I wanna draw a comic with my own ideas, I wanna go skydiving... But thats for later, for now I think I wanna draw some Dragonball fan art :P I have a monthly theme thing going on where for a month I would draw a specific genre,I have done Zelda month, Pokemon month, Robots month, Zombie month, Underwater month. So next month I wanna make a Dragonball month or something but I can't confirm on that.

8. Random shoutbox! Say whatever you want here!

DRAGON DRAGON! ROCK THE DRAGON DRAGONBALL ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!

Over 9000. How did you enjoy this interview? I know I sure did :P
